MI to AR

August 30, 2023

After visiting Michigan’s UP, we then came back south over the Mackinac Bridge down to Sandy Beach County Park in White Cloud, MI. Our site overlooked the Hardy Dam Pond, and we were parked next to friends from the Switch It Up group.

After our work week, we ventured out with our friends to Founders Brewery in Grand Rapids, MI for dinner and drinks. The food and beer was great, but most importantly, it was great to spend a fun time with our friends and catch up.

Our next stop was a Harvest Host location at the RV and MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, IN for an overnight stop. There was plenty of parking for the 8 RV’s overnight. Sian took a lunch break from work and visited the museum. It was so much fun to look at the progression of life on the road.

Our next overnight stay was at Richard’s Farm Restaurant in Casey, IL where you will find the “Largest” items throughout the town. Richard’s Farm had the largest pitchfork. We heard about this querky little town from an RV neighbor that we met in Missouri earlier this year. We happen to be traveling straight through Casey, IL on our route, so we adjust our plans slightly to stay at this Harvest Host location to take in the town. Our favorite was the largest golf tee at the local golf country club.

The next night we stopped at another Harvest Host location at Point Labaddie Brewery in Labadie, MO. This was a small but mighty brewery focusing on local distribution sales and hosting events on site. We had a wonderful chat with one of the owners (the father). His son is the brewer who was out making some local deliveries.

These back to back Harvest Hosts were so accommodating, as Sian had to work during the day and we traveled in the evening with short hops to the next Harvest Host location. Again, not our norm, but it was fun to have a new view out the window each morning. We finally made it to The Creeks Golf & RV Park in Arkansas, close to some family, where we indulged in a fantastic Italian Dinner at Pastafina in Cave Springs, AK. It was miserably hot in mid-August (family said it was beautiful weather the week before), but Richard was still able to play a few rounds of golf in the 100 degree weather and had to keep hydrating. Poor Snickers did not get much outdoor time, as it was too hot to play outdoors until the evenings. We will need to plan our next trip to Arkansas better!
