As we make our way north, we headed to Savanah, GA and stayed at Creek Fire RV Resort. The resort had very nice amenities, including a pool, hot tub, and a lazy river! Richard enjoyed them all during the week, while Sian was working.
Over the weekend, we took a trolley tour of Savanah, and learned a lot about this historic city. As we passed along cobblestone streets, we saw trees with Spanish moss, beautiful homes, and parks with historic statues and fountains.
One of Sian’s favorite stops was the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America. She was quite the artist, as many pieces of work in the home were done by Juliette herself. From paintings, painted plates, sculptures and many more pieces are displayed in the home. The white quilt had hand written names of girls scouts on different squares you could still make out the signatures. The living room is where she held meetings starting with tea and then getting into teaching all kinds of arts. Even rolling up the sleeves of their dresses teaching the girls about bugs, flowers and much about nature. She traveled around the world which was evident a photo of her in a Kimono. She had married the son of a railroad tycoon. The wealth at the time was compared to the family owning ten Amazons today. But, a couple years after their wedding he began a relationship with another woman. Juliette did not let that change her and sought to educate young women on leadership, assistance to others, survival skills, and independence. She started a movement of teaching young women to come together and embrace their unique strengths and passions.
One fun fact is that Sian was named after her mother’s Girl Scout penpal in England.
After leaving Savanah we traveled quickly north with stops in Raleigh Oaks in Four Oaks NC, King Dominion KOA in Daswell VA, Clarksboro KOA in Clarksboro NJ, and Niantic KOA in Niatic CT. The rapid pace of travel was necessary so that Sian would arrive in Massachusetts in time for important meetings for work in Boston.
