October 2022
Sian took two weeks off from work to bring the RV south. We reviewed our departure checklist and found a low tire, so we had to take care of that first. Luckily, we found out the tire was fine and it was the pressure sensor that was bad, allowing air to leak. So we removed it until we could get a replacement sensor.
We left MA and headed first to Hershey, PA and stayed at Thousand Trails Hershey. We arrived late on the Saturday when they were celebrating Halloween and missed all the trick or treaters but did not miss the Hershey Howl!
After a quick two night stop in Hershey we kept moving onto Virginia and stayed overnight in a Walmart parking lot with several trucks. We experienced a short delay as we had to change a cracked fuel filter that apparently was over tightened by the mechanics who did our chassis service before we left Massachusetts.
Our next leg was a long one from Virginia to Northern Georgia with a nice easy drive until we hit the Georgia mountains where we found ourselves twisting and turning on a mountain road. This was our first introduction to mountain driving…..So glad we have a diesel engine as our “Rocket” handled the mountains like it was a easy Sunday drive.
Yes, we named our RV the “Rocket”. The name of the paint scheme of our 2019 Tiffin Phaeton is NASA. So we thought our diesel engine RV would be the “Rocket” and the Jeep Grand Cherokee we tow behind the RV is the “Shuttle”. Richard thought it would be funny to name them “Moose and Squirrel” but I (Sian) was not convinced that suited us.
Anyway, back to our travels. We had heard about a new RV park in Northern Georgia, called Talona Ridge, and had reserved a week there.
Having completed our long, fast trip to the south, we toasted to our success and settled in for a relaxing week. Talona Ridge did not disappoint! The views were spectacular and our timing was perfect to see the peak fall foliage on the mountain peaks. Our understanding is the owners did not have any previous experience, but they went straight to the horses mouth working with focus groups of RVers. Well, it paid off as they check every box of what RVers are looking for (in our humble opinion). We can’t say enough about the park.
We were lucky to meet wonderful neighbors to exchange stories. They own a beautiful newer Tiffin Phaeton and shared so much knowledge with us. We are forever grateful for this new friendship! What a surprise when learned we were both heading next to Red Bay, where Tiffin RV’s are built. These connections to kind, like minded people, is what we cherish the most.
