We made our way north over the Mackinac Bridge to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, otherwise known as the U P. Unfortunately, our timing was horrible, as it was during a mini cooper parade coming from the north over the bridge which slowed traffic quite a bit. We finally made it to the toll booth on the north side of the bridge over 45 minutes later. We were caravanning to our next location with our friends who also own a Tiffin Phaeton, so the view looks very familiar, but this is not our rig heading over the bridge.
Once over the bridge it was smooth sailing, traveling west on the scenic drive along Lake Michigan before turning north towards Munising, MI. Our destination was a small campground in Christmas, MI, called Pictured Rocks Campground.
Our next adventure found us hopping on another boat with Riptide Rides for a 90-minute thrill ride around Grand Island National Recreation Area on Lake Superior. The views of the cliffs were spectacular where we also saw plenty of bald eagles on the treetops.
Richard was also able to head out during the week, hiking with our friends while Sian worked. The views were amazing overlooking Lake Huron.
The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is one place where we will definitely come back to visit. We had a blast caravanning with friends and have plans to see them again on the road.
